museum

The bright yellow facade of the Petit Jazz Museum stands out along Governor Nicholls Street, its exterior covered in colorful, hand-painted murals of brass band musicians and dancers. Inside, Muhammad Abdul-Alim spent years curating a collection of instruments, photographs, and personal effects left behind by jazz pioneers who once called this neighborhood home. He often sat in the doorway, inviting passersby to hear stories about the brass band traditions that grew from the local social clubs and funerals of Treme.
