1850 House Museum & Gift Shop

The eighteen fifty house features a four-story brick facade punctuated by iconic, intricate cast-iron balconies that stretch across its entire width. Built by Baroness Micaela Almonester de Pontalba, this structure served as a residence for the wealthy elite in the mid-nineteenth century. The Baroness oversaw every design detail, insisting on the ornate ironwork to project her European sensibilities into the humid New Orleans air. Today, the interior rooms hold original furnishings that recreate the daily life of a prominent Creole family.
