The four story brick structure at eight eleven Royal Street features a distinct iron lace balcony that casts sharp geometric shadows across the sidewalk. This building serves as the home of the Brennan family restaurant, Brennan’s, which famously popularized Bananas Foster in the nineteen fifties. Chef Paul Blangé created the dessert to showcase the crates of fruit arriving at the Port of New Orleans. He flambéed the bananas with rum and sugar tableside, filling the dining room with a blue flame.
