The Presbytère features a Mansard roof and a series of arched windows that mirror the design of the neighboring Cabildo. Built on the site of a former Capuchin monastery, it served as a courthouse during the nineteenth century. In eighteen forty-seven, the building hosted a memorable grand ball to celebrate the arrival of the remains of Andrew Jackson. Guests danced beneath the chandeliers while the floors groaned under the weight of the crowd. Today, the interior houses permanent exhibitions on Mardi Gras and Hurricane Katrina.
