Eleanor Roosevelt Monument

The monument before you represents a rare moment in the landscape of New York City public art. While the city holds hundreds of statues depicting great men, this tribute to Eleanor Roosevelt, unveiled in 1996, was only the second public monument in a city park dedicated to a real woman. It stands on the former site of an access ramp for the West Side Highway and a long-lost monument to Henry Hudson that was accidentally toppled by a truck in the 1950s.
