The Level Club

The Level Club was constructed in nineteen twenty-seven as the first Masonic hotel and clubhouse in the United States. Its founders, a group known as the Levelers, intended the building to serve as a grand, permanent monument to their fraternity. The structure was designed by architects Clinton and Russell to be the only true-to-size replica of King Solomon’s Temple in the world. Look closely at the exterior, and you will see the stone facade covered in symbolic carvings, including the all-seeing eye, the square and compasses, and the beehive. Above the entrance stand two pillars representing the legendary gateway to Solomon's Temple, guarded by stone figures of King Solomon and the architect Hiram Abiff.
