Tanner Springs Park features a landscape of native grasses and a winding, stone-lined stream that mimics the historic wetlands of this area. Before developers built the surrounding Pearl District, this ground served as a marshy lake that fed into the Willamette River. In two thousand six, designers hauled in thousands of tons of basalt to reconstruct that lost water table. Passersby often find frogs and dragonflies congregating near the water, a rare flicker of original Oregon wilderness within the city grid.
