The Meier & Frank Building

The Meier and Frank Building occupies an entire city block, defined by its terra cotta exterior and the massive, ornate clock suspended above the corner of Southwest Sixth and Morrison. For over a century, this was the flagship department store for the Pacific Northwest. When the first section opened in nineteen oh nine, shoppers rode mahogany-paneled elevators and browsed imported goods under chandeliers. It became a social anchor where generations of Portlanders met for lunch, holiday window displays, and milestone purchases.
