Portlandia

The Portlandia statue is a massive copper repoussé figure kneeling on the front of the Portland Building. It is the second-largest copper statue in the country, eclipsed only by the Statue of Liberty. Raymond Kaskey designed the figure, modeled after the trident-bearing woman on the city seal. During its nineteen eighty-five installation, the sculpture arrived by barge on the Willamette River, and a helicopter lifted the sections into place. It remains a fixture of downtown, clutching a copper trident in her right hand.
