Morrison Bridge

The Morrison Bridge spans the Willamette River with a distinctive, low-slung, vertical-lift truss design painted a bright, recognizable blue. It serves as the primary gateway into downtown Portland from the east side, moving thousands of cars daily across the water. When the bridge opened in nineteen fifty-eight, it replaced a narrow, congested wooden predecessor. Engineers built this version to handle modern traffic loads, and its central span lifts straight into the air to let tall river ships pass underneath.
