Salmon Street Springs

Salmon Street Springs features four concentric rings of bronze nozzles that shoot water into the air in a shifting, choreographed sequence. It sits on the edge of the Willamette River as a programmed fountain where the water patterns change based on a computer algorithm. In nineteen eighty-eight, when the fountain opened, city engineers struggled with the delicate sensors, causing the water to splash pedestrians unexpectedly. Some people still time their run through the spray when the jets suddenly pause their rhythm.
