The Dreamer

monument

The Dreamer is a reclining bronze figure cast from salvaged United States Navy metal, perched above a reflecting pool in Pettygrove Park. Sculptor Manuel Izquierdo filled the hollow form with foam before installing it here in nineteen seventy-nine. This choice creates an unusual acoustic effect: when rain falls on the sculpture, it produces the soft, resonant beat of a kettledrum instead of a sharp metallic ring. The piece rests on a geometric base, designed to evoke the fluid grace of a river goddess. TOPIC_DONE
