Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall displays a white, terra cotta facade topped by a vertical sign spelling P-O-R-T-L-A-N-D in bright red letters. Originally opened as the Portland Publix Theater in nineteen twenty-eight, the building hosted vaudeville acts and silent films before falling into disrepair. In the early nineteen eighties, city leaders saved the structure from demolition. They renovated the ornate interior, keeping the original Italian rococo design to serve as the permanent home for the Oregon Symphony.
