Catedral Virgen del Carmen

The Catedral Virgen del Carmen features a distinct, slender spire that rises sharply above the surrounding canopy of Puerto Iguazú. Constructed in the nineteen seventies, this church replaced a humble wooden chapel that served the early pioneers of the town. Builders faced a shortage of traditional materials, so they used local stone and reddish earth from the region to shape the walls. Inside, the stained glass filters the tropical sunlight into vivid patterns across the pews, shifting colors throughout the afternoon.
