Walsh Bay Arts Precinct

The Walsh Bay Arts Precinct features enormous corrugated iron sheds resting on timber pylons that stretch deep into the harbor water. These structures served as the primary shipping wharves for Sydney throughout the early twentieth century, designed to handle the wool and wheat trades. During the nineteen thirties, the massive sliding doors saw teams of laborers hauling cargo under the watch of wharfies who effectively controlled the flow of commerce. Today, these same industrial loading bays house theaters, dance studios, and artist galleries.
