Campbell's Stores

The sandstone walls of Campbell's Stores stretch along the water with heavy timber beams and iron columns clearly visible through the ground floor windows. These warehouses date back to eighteen thirty-nine, when Robert Campbell, a wealthy merchant, built them to store imported goods directly off his private wharf. Before the city expanded, these rooms held tea, sugar, and spirits brought from London. They survived the demolition of the surrounding area in the early twentieth century when the plague forced the government to rebuild The Rocks.
