Australian National Maritime Museum

The Australian National Maritime Museum sits on the edge of Darling Harbour under a sprawling, white, tent-like roof that mimics the sails of a ship. It houses a vast collection of vessels, including a decommissioned submarine and a replica of the Endeavour, the ship Captain James Cook used to chart the East Coast. In nineteen eighty-eight, the museum opened to mark the country’s bicentenary, giving the public a place to explore the ocean’s history through the ships that shaped the continent.
