Pyrmont Bridge

landmark

The Pyrmont Bridge features a central swing span that pivots on a massive concrete cylinder to let ships pass through Darling Harbour. Completed in nineteen oh two, it replaced an earlier wooden structure that struggled to handle the heavy carts hauling wool and timber into the city. When the swing span turns, the entire roadway sections rotate in unison. Today, it serves as a pedestrian walkway, though it remains one of the oldest surviving electrically operated swing bridges in the world.
