The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre

The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre sits behind a modern facade, identifiable by the large, glass-covered archaeological excavation pit visible right on the site. Beneath this floor lie the remnants of houses and shops from the nineteenth century, abandoned after the plague broke out in nineteen hundred. When developers planned to build here, they uncovered thousands of artifacts, from clay pipes to ceramic shards. These objects remain in the dirt, left exactly where they were discovered to show how Sydney grew from its foundations.
