Campbells Cove

The sandstone sea wall at Campbells Cove holds the remnants of heavy iron rings bolted directly into the rock face. These rings served as the primary mooring points for the tall sailing ships that anchored here in the early nineteenth century. Robert Campbell, a merchant from Calcutta, built his private wharf here in eighteen hundred and one. He used this spot to unload shipments of tea and sugar before the government seized the harbor front for public expansion.
