Associação de Capoeira Mestre Bimba

The Associação de Capoeira Mestre Bimba features a brightly painted sign and a modest, rectangular storefront on the Rua das Laranjeiras in the Pelourinho neighborhood. Mestre Bimba opened this school in nineteen seventy-three to preserve his specific style, the Capoeira Regional. Before this, he taught in private clubs, but he moved here to keep the tradition open to his students. Bimba spent his final years here, teaching the fast, athletic movements he developed to modernize the practice and gain official recognition.
