Casa do Benin

museum

The Casa do Benin features a vibrant, ochre-colored facade decorated with carved wooden panels that reflect the artistic heritage of the Republic of Benin. This cultural center occupies a restored eighteenth-century colonial townhouse in the Pelourinho district. It houses a significant collection of West African artifacts, including bronze sculptures and ceremonial masks donated by the Pierre Verger Foundation. The house celebrates the deep historical and spiritual ties between Salvador and the Bight of Benin, linking the two regions through a shared transatlantic history.
