Largo Terreiro de Jesus features a prominent central fountain framed by the imposing stone facades of historic colonial buildings. This plaza served as the city's primary stage for public proclamations and religious processions for centuries. In sixteen ninety-five, a Jesuit college stood here until a conflict involving a local governor forced the brothers to leave. After the building sat vacant, it became the medical school that still occupies the space today, anchoring the site as a center for both learning and civic life.
