St. Patrick's Island

St. Patrick's Island sits in the Bow River, marked by a sharp, thin point of land that cuts into the water like the bow of a ship. This thirty-one acre island served as a campground for First Nations peoples long before the city grew up around it. It later housed the city's first zoo and a public park, but heavy flooding eventually left the island abandoned. In two thousand fifteen, crews reshaped the riverbanks and added a massive, elevated concrete plaza called the Tip.
