The Bow

The Bow rises as a fifty-eight story crescent of glass and steel, curving toward the Bow River. It stands as the tallest office tower in Calgary outside the downtown core’s traditional financial district. When EnCana and Cenovus needed a headquarters, they asked architect Norman Foster to design a building that maximized sunlight for workers. He pushed the structure into a bow shape to deflect high-altitude winds, which cut the amount of steel needed for the frame by nearly twenty percent.
