Simmons Building

The Simmons Building is a four-story brick warehouse with a jagged, stepped roofline that stands out against the glass towers of downtown Calgary. Built in nineteen twelve by the Simmons Bedding Company, it served as a factory where workers stuffed mattresses with local horsehair and wool. During the catastrophic flood of two thousand thirteen, the building sat submerged in river water for days, yet its heavy timber frame held firm. It now houses local coffee roasters and restaurants that occupy the old factory floor.
