The Calgary Municipal Building stands out for its curved glass wall, which reflects the jagged skyline of the city’s downtown. Completed in nineteen eighty-five, it replaced a cramped, aging city hall that could no longer hold the growing municipal staff. Architect Graham McCourt designed the structure to face the older sandstone city hall building, creating a public plaza between the two. The project required the city to relocate an entire block of historic streetcar tracks and integrate the new facility directly into the +15 elevated walkway system.
