Bow Valley Square features four dark, glass-clad towers that rise sharply above the downtown Calgary skyline. Opened in the nineteen seventies, the complex arrived as a response to the city’s rapid expansion during the oil boom. Architect Peter Hemingway designed the towers to hold up under the harsh prairie winds. When the first phase finished, the local press dubbed the atrium the city's new living room, a massive indoor space where office workers could escape the brutal Alberta winter in a tropical setting.
