Garrison Crossing

Garrison Crossing consists of two weathering steel bridges that zigzag across the rail corridor to connect Stanley Park North to the Fort York grounds. The distinctive rust-colored finish comes from a specific steel alloy designed to develop a stable, protective patina over time. During the nineteenth century, this narrow passage served as a crucial defensive bottleneck for the military garrison. Today, the bridges replace a perilous crossing where workers once risked their lives dodging trains to reach the industrial lands on the south side.
