The Bentway

The Bentway exists beneath the Gardiner Expressway, defined by the raw, rhythmically repeating concrete columns that hold up the highway above. Before two thousand eighteen, this narrow strip of land served as a forgotten graveyard for gravel and construction debris. Landscape architects transformed the space by weaving public trails and gardens between these massive vertical supports. During the winter, the segment near the visitor center turns into a figure-eight skating trail, forcing commuters and skaters to share the urban industrial architecture.
