Yellow umbrellas stand scattered across the sand at HTO Park like oversized garden flowers. This park sits on a former shipping slip, a wedge of land reclaimed from Lake Ontario. Landscape architects transformed this industrial edge into an urban beach in two thousand seven. They hauled in massive amounts of sand and installed those signature umbrellas to create a public space where the city meets the water. It offers a place to sit, despite the ban on swimming in the water here.
