Berczy Park Dog Fountain

monument

Twenty-seven golden dogs sit on a tiered cast-iron fountain in the center of the park. Claude Cormier designed this feature in two thousand seventeen to solve a practical problem. The city needed a vent for the underground sewage pumping station, so he turned the ventilation shaft into a public art piece. A pug sits near the top, spraying a stream of water at a massive bone. The dogs range from playful to stoic, and each one is based on a real dog.
