Memorial - Old City Hall Cenotaph

The Old City Hall Cenotaph stands as a simple granite pillar directly in front of the stone arches of the nineteenth century municipal building. It was unveiled on Armistice Day in nineteen twenty-five to honor the citizens of Toronto who served and died in the First World War. While city officials initially debated its placement, veterans insisted it remain close to the halls of government. They wanted the names of the fallen etched in stone right where the city makes its daily decisions.
