Soldiers' Tower

The Soldiers' Tower rises as a heavy stone campanile above the University of Toronto, capped by a copper roof that turned green long ago. It commemorates the one thousand, one hundred, and eighty-five students, faculty, and alumni who died during the First World War. When the university held the dedication ceremony in nineteen twenty-four, the tower held a carillon of twenty-three bells. Those bells still ring out, playing music across the campus grounds every single day at noon and five o'clock.
