AIDS Memorial

The AIDS Memorial consists of eight limestone pillars etched with the names of thousands who died from the epidemic. It occupies a quiet corner of Barbara Hall Park, positioned where a high-school gymnasium once stood. In the nineteen eighties, the community began holding vigils here for friends lost to the virus. When the city eventually demolished the building, residents insisted that this space remained a place of public remembrance. Those names now stretch across the stone columns, updated annually in a solemn ceremony.
