Metcalfe Street

Metcalfe Street holds the largest concentration of Victorian houses in North America. These narrow brick homes, built in the late nineteenth century, feature pointed gables and ornate wooden trim that define the neighborhood. Local legend insists that the street was named for a tax collector who built his own house here, only to find the high property taxes he enforced made it impossible for him to stay. The houses remain, while the tax collector moved on to a smaller place nearby.
