The red brick chimney at one hundred fifty-six Winchester Street rises well above the roofline, marking the former site of the Winchester Street School. Built in eighteen seventy-four, the structure served the children of local laborers and factory workers who crowded into the small cottages nearby. While the original school burned down in nineteen hundred, this replacement held classrooms for local students until the mid-nineteen seventies. Today, the building serves as a community center, housing a daycare and local offices.
