Hart House Circle is the green heart of the University of Toronto, defined by a ring of Gothic revival buildings. It centers on the collegiate gothic stone of Hart House itself, built in nineteen nineteen to serve as a hub for student life. When Vincent Massey commissioned the building, he demanded it remain a social space for debate and music, refusing to let it become a library or lecture hall. It stayed a place for student athletes, musicians, and debaters to collide for over a century.
