Toronto's First Post Office

The red brick facade of Toronto's First Post Office stands out with its modest, domestic scale, contrasting sharply with the glass towers of the modern city. Completed in eighteen thirty-three, it served as the main postal hub for what was then the town of York. James Scott Howard, the town's postmaster, ran the operation from this building, sorting mail by candlelight while living upstairs with his family. The post office remains a functioning branch of the Canada Post system to this day.
