St. Lawrence Market

The south building of St. Lawrence Market carries a distinctive red brick facade with a central clock tower that rises above the intersection of Front and Jarvis streets. It sits on the site of Toronto’s original eighteen forty-five City Hall. When the city government moved out in eighteen ninety-nine, the building remained as a public market. During the renovations in the nineteen seventies, workers discovered a collection of antique ceramic pipes and bottles abandoned in the dirt beneath the floorboards.
