First Canadian Place

First Canadian Place dominates the intersection of King and Bay streets with a facade of white marble panels. This seventy-two story tower stands as the tallest office building in Canada, housing the corporate headquarters of the Bank of Montreal. In nineteen eighty-four, a major construction flaw caused a heavy slab of marble to fall from the sixty-eighth floor. This led to a massive, years-long project to replace nearly forty-five thousand stone panels with reinforced glass and steel.
