The Reading Building features a distinct facade of yellow brick and ornate terracotta details that set it apart from the modern glass towers nearby. Built in nineteen oh six, the structure served as the headquarters for the Toronto Railway Company. When the city moved to take over the streetcar system, company president William Mackenzie reportedly had the building's internal wiring torn out and the marble floors chipped away before he handed over the keys. The scars from that defiance remain hidden behind the polished stone.
