Toronto Music Garden

park garden

The Toronto Music Garden is marked by a sweeping, circular trail that mimics the dance steps of Johann Sebastian Bach's first cello suite. Landscape architect Tomson Highway worked with cellist Yo-Yo Ma to translate the music into a physical space, where weeping willows lean over the path to represent the suite's prelude. The park follows the curves of the shoreline, turning the movement of the music into a sequence of gardens designed to be experienced as a slow, deliberate walk.
