The exterior of the Royal Bank Plaza North Tower shines with thousands of windows coated in two thousand five hundred ounces of pure gold. When the building opened in nineteen seventy-six, the gold finish acted as a heat reflector to manage the interior climate. Architect Boris Zerafa designed the triangular towers to maximize floor space and views of the harbor. During construction, the intense glint from the gold glass frequently distracted drivers on the nearby Gardiner Expressway, causing traffic to slow down significantly.
