Commerce Court

The thirty-four-story Commerce Court North tower features a facade of Indiana limestone and a central entrance crowned by a tiered, pyramid-like bronze roof. When the Canadian Bank of Commerce finished it in nineteen thirty-one, it was the tallest building in the British Empire. Architect Darling and Pearson designed the banking hall inside to resemble a Roman temple, complete with marble floors and vaulted ceilings. It remains the centerpiece of the modern office complex that grew up around its base decades later.
