Cave de la Filaterie

The heavy stone archway at the Cave de la Filaterie creates a dark, recessed entrance that cuts into the light-colored facades of the old town. This shop sits directly atop medieval foundations that served as storehouses for local merchants transporting goods between Italy and the Swiss cantons. When the current owners began renovations in the nineteen eighties, they discovered a hidden well and walls dating back to the fourteenth century, which now hold rows of Savoie wines instead of the original salt and textiles.
