Maison Garot

The Maison Garot stands out for its high, narrow timber-frame facade that seems to tilt slightly over the street. Built in the sixteenth century, this structure served as a residence for local merchants. In the nineteen seventies, workers removing a layer of plaster discovered original frescoes painted directly onto the wood beams. These hidden patterns show hunting scenes and decorative scrollwork, detailing how wealthy families decorated their private living spaces during the Renaissance. It remains one of the oldest decorated wood houses in Annecy.
