Pont de Gevrier

The Pont de Gevrier spans the Thiou river with a single, slender arch of stone that sits unusually low against the water. This bridge replaced a series of wooden crossings that frequently succumbed to the Thiou’s seasonal flooding. In eighteen sixty-two, engineers finally anchored this masonry structure deep into the bedrock to ensure it stayed put during the spring thaws. It served as the primary artery for local tanners who needed to move hides between the riverbanks and the nearby drying sheds.
