Place Madeleine Braun

park garden

Place Madeleine Braun is a small triangular public square where the Rue de Chabrol meets the Rue de Maubeuge. It honors a woman who worked as a secret courier for the French Resistance during the second world war. She carried coded messages across occupied territory under the cover of her job, often moving right past German patrols. After the war, she became a member of the National Assembly. This patch of cobblestones keeps her name attached to the daily rhythm of the tenth arrondissement.
