The square de l'Abbé-Georges-Hénocque is a sunken garden, resting well below the street level of the surrounding neighborhood. It takes its name from a local priest who stayed in the Thirteenth Arrondissement during the German occupation of the Second World War. Hénocque worked with the French Resistance, hiding fugitives in the church basement before the Gestapo eventually arrested him. He died in a concentration camp in nineteen forty-five, and the city later repurposed this former stone quarry into a quiet residential park.
